Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DO THE DIVERS DO THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT?
All we require our divers to do is register, show up with their certifications, and dive for their 30 minute shift commitment. We rotate divers every 30 mins from 4pm on Friday to 4pm on Saturday for a full 24 hours in the water. Many participants will raise funds as well. You can do so by going to www.firstgiving.com/divearoundtheclock
After the event we will have our closing ceremonies where we announce funds raised totals and do the prize drawings. Participants are encouraged, though not required, to be on site for the closing ceremonies to claim their winnings!
WHO ARE THE DIVERS THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT?
We have divers come from all across the nation, many planning their annual vacations around it, just to participate in the event. Everyone, with basic certifications like open-water, all the way to our pro instructors come together to get in on the action. You can come alone, and we will pair you with a buddy or you can sign up as a team.
DO I HAVE TO FUNDRAISE IN ORDER TO DIVE?
Absolutely not! You will benefit by doing so though not only in the warmth of heart by giving to such a great cause, but also because we reward our fundraisers with lots of exclusive prizes! Sign up to start collecting at www.firstgiving.com/divearoundtheclock
While we encourage and our donations to Seattle Children's rely on the fundraising efforts of our divers, fundraising is not required to participate in the event. We are constantly working to find the tools and resources to make the fundraising part of our event easy and comfortable for everyone. These resources are in the development stage, so any suggestions here is welcome. Please reach out to us if you are simply unsure of how to get going, and we will do our best to assist you.
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN THE DIVE AROUND THE CLOCK EVENT?
Divers that participate have the opportunity to be part of the most unique sporting event around, all while having fun, meeting other divers and benefiting a great cause.
Everything DATC does is in an effort to give as much as we can to Children's Cancer Research, whether it be funds or just a higher level of awareness in the community. We are investing in what we believe to be more important than anything, our children, our future.
We like to say, your probably already going diving anyway, so why not do it for a good cause? We cant imagine a better cause than the fight to end childhood cancer, and find less invasive treatments along the way.
ALL proceeds raised by participants from the event go directly to benefit Childhood Cancer Research, through Seattle Children's Hospital. Only the registration fees are used to help procure the permits and pay for event neccessities such as the event shirts.
WHEN DO I HAVE TO REGISTER BY?
That is up to you. We do encourage advanced registration for many reasons, including and not limited to wanted dive times, shirt size guarantee, and of course just being able to share with all your friends that you are part of the coolest event around!
Of course, you are more than welcome to wait and register the day of the event, and you could even do so on site!
Many divers will pre-register, to make sure they get the shirt size and at least one of the dive times they want, and then at the event notify us they are available for more dive times if we need fill ins.
